Profile of Reading Characteristics

GRADE 1:

Parent reads aloud to student; student reads aloud to parent.

First Graders like fairytales...memorize nonsense verses... like books with dinosaurs...enjoy alphabet and counting books. Reading together at home makes learning to read at school that much easier. As reading skills develop during 1st grade, encourage parents to “echo” read, where the parent reads one line and the child repeats it.
