The Wild Cat Word is a monthly newsletter brought to you by the NWS guidance department. We hope to address those issues that we all struggle with, and aim to provide clues, insight, and tips to help your student make the best of their time at NWS.

June 2010	The Lazy Hazy Days of Summer Studies show that many students suffer from what is called summer learning loss. When they return to school in September, they have forgotten many of the things they worked so hard to learn last year. It’s not hard to see why.
May 2010	Wildcat Wellness Common sense tells us that healthy kids do better in school, and research confirms that diet and exercise have a direct effect on learning. Healthy students are better able to concentrate on their work, attend school on a regular basis and perform better in class. So it makes sense that schools should be involved in helping to support the health, education and well-being of all children.
April 2010	Keeping Kids Safe in an Online Universe The Internet can be a wonderful resource for kids. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with distant family members and other kids, and play interactive games. Kids who are old enough to punch in a few letters on the keyboard can literally access the world.
Mar 2010	It's Only Puppy Love Remember the words of the old chant "John and Mary sitting in a tree..."? It's still being used on playgrounds today. Children frequently "try on" adult behavior in elementary school, and come home reporting that "a boy in my class likes me", or "she has a boyfriend".
